Q: We have access to so much news on a daily basis. What kinds of information do you consume at the start of your day?
A: I am very protective of the information I take in daily, regardless of the time. I focus in the mornings initially on spiritual areas of my life. Beyond that, I will listen to specific leadership audio, be it an audio book, radio show, or podcast. I prefer social media linked to the web and very rarely, if ever, watch television (the exception here is the occasional sporting event!)
Q: How do you use social media?
A: I use social media to develop authentic relationships, recognize and solve the digital marketing needs of individuals and clients, and to deliver genuine, relative, and useful help to others. I love to inspire and motivate others with my words, whether spoken or written.
Q: How has social media changed your life?
A: It led to the creation of my business and allowed me to leave my “regular job” and focus full time on my dream. I would say it has changed my life in a very positive way.
Q: Do you think social media has enhanced or diminished our personal relationships?
A: This really depends on how we use it, the balance we maintain, and whether or not we use it to create and maintain relationships. For me, it has enhanced my ability to connect with people around the world, leading to phenomenal opportunities.
Q: What organizations, brands or personalities do you follow? What makes them worth following?
A: I love the work of people like John Maxwell, Malcom Gladwell, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Jon Acuff. Their content is relative and is always applicable. I also listen to a weekly brief from Dr. Kevin Elko.
Q: What kinds of posts spark your interest?
A: Posts that are relative to the success of my clients, potential clients, and my business spark my interest. Posts that contribute to a generation of positive thoughts always spark my interest. I stray away from anything that is heavily biased, negative in nature, or misleading.
Q: What is/are your favorite social media platform/s and why?
A: I love Facebook and Instagram. The main reason I like these two over the others is the ability to create authentic relationships with people who are in a similar place in life. Plus, the hashtags really do work.
Q: Favorite hashtag or one you’d like to see?
A: Who wouldn’t want #Moreicecream? I would love to see #authenticbusiness but no one would want to type that many letters. All my hashtag recommendations are like full Twitter posts.
Q: What advice would you give to a brand about how to get started with a social media program or make their existing one more effective?
A: Be genuine. Stick to your brand. Be relevant. Be real. Don’t post things just to attract views or followers, this will fade. Authenticity and real time connection sell more than anything.
Q: If you could follow any historical figure on social media, who would it be?
A: I would love to be able to follow past presidents, successful business leaders, and since I am from Alabama (Roll Tide!), Paul “Bear” Bryant. His posts would have been very motivational.
Q: Cone, cup, or straight from the container?
A: Cone. Always!
Q: Favorite flavor?
A: I am going to shoot straight with you here: I like them all. Really, I do. But, if I had to choose, I am going with cookies and cream, or peanut butter, or maybe vanilla that is homemade. See, I cannot choose one.
