Q: We have access to so much news on a daily basis. What kinds of information do you consume at the start of your day?
A: With my journalism background, I am absolutely a news junkie. I wake up in the morning checking my New York Times app and go to bed checking my ABC Channel 7 and Los Angeles Times app. My favorite news sites are The Daily Beast, Mashable and Time. Much of my breaking news comes from my Facebook and Twitter feeds, which I monitor religiously throughout the day.
Q: How do you use social media?
A: Social media is the engine that publicizes my business. I use my company Facebook site and my Twitter site to post my video blogs and move people to my website. Linked In is vital for my business connections, and raises awareness of my services to my corporate clients.
Q: How has social media changed your life?
A: Social media allows me to directly interact with my clients and potential customer base. It takes the middle man (traditional media) out of the mix, allowing me to publicize my services directly. It also allows me to distribute my almost daily motivational videos and memes to my target audience in an economical, efficient way.
Q: Do you think social media has enhanced or diminished our personal relationships?
A: I think social media is a great complement to our personal relationships. It allows me to keep in touch with hundreds of people who otherwise I would not be able to reach. And while deeper relationships require face-to-face communication, it is wonderful to be able to stay in touch with so many amazing people.
Q: What organizations, brands or personalities do you follow? What makes them worth following?
A: I follow mostly news organizations. They keep me up to date with popular culture as well as serious news stories. I also follow the City of Hope page; the hospital in Duarte saved my life.
Q: What kinds of posts spark your interest?
A: Given my background in healthcare public relations and marketing, as well as the fact that I am a cancer survivor, any medical- or science-related posts always spark my interest. And it is amazing how accessible this information is, thanks to social media.
Q: What is/are your favorite social media platform/s and why?
A: I love Facebook because it is easy to navigate, easy to post my videos and memes, easy to interact with my target audience – just an easy, fun platform.
Q: Favorite hashtag or one you’d like to see?
Q: What advice would you give to a brand about how to get started with a social media program or make their existing one more effective?
A: The most important aspect of a social media program is the creation of a dynamic, content-packed website where your clients can visit for more information. Once you have that foundation, you can build your brand around the content. Then start branching out into social media. And I believe you need a “catchy,” memorable brand, which is why I chose Doctor BS.
Q: If you could follow any historical figure on social media, who would it be?
A: Albert Einstein. His discoveries and theories continue to thrill our generation. And a shout out to Carl Sagan as well. Loved him.
Q: Cone, cup, or straight from the container?
Q: Favorite flavor?
A: Rocky Road
